Hi, I'm Susan. 👋

I went from working a 9 to 5 to building two 7-figure online businesses from scratch. But I didn’t wake up one day magically knowing how to build online businesses—I learned everything the messy, experimental, “try it and see what happens” way.

And if my journey proves anything, it’s that you don’t need to be a tech genius, a marketing prodigy, or an influencer to create something wildly successful.

Here are a few of my favorite milestones from along the way:

  • Served 600,000+ customers from 104 countries with my digital products and programs.

  • Built two 7-figure online businesses from scratch with no funding, outside help, or giant team.

  • Invited to Google HQ twice for scaling my tiny ad account into a $300,000/month powerhouse.

  • Created multiple profitable digital offers including Burn360, which now has over 100,000 customers.

  • Ran a business that kept earning even when I worked 5 hours a week during a difficult pregnancy.

  • Moved to five different cities without skipping a beat thanks to a fully location-independent business.

My Journey

This is the story behind how I went from a 9–5 corporate job to building multiple successful digital businesses—and all the lessons I learned along the way. My hope is that as you read through this timeline, you’ll see what’s possible for you too, no matter where you’re starting.

2000

Working 9 to 5

Right out of university, I started working as a software engineer in aerospace—great team, interesting work, lots of coding. But the best part? It trained me to think in systems and break complicated things into small parts, which is exactly how I help creators & entrepreneurs navigate business and tech today. But I knew I wasn’t meant to sit in a cubicle until retirement…

2004

An e-commerce failure

I launched my first business as a side hustle while juggling my corporate job—a cute e-commerce shop selling craft crystals. But without knowing how to market or sell effectively, sales hit a ceiling and it simply couldn’t grow any further. (And this was before social media). That experience taught me what really makes a business work (and what doesn’t). I've made all the mistakes so you don't have to!

2006

Married Shin

After five years of dating, I married Shin—and together we started dreaming about a future where we could be our own bosses and create something meaningful. That mindset shift—designing life first, business second—is something I bring into everything I teach, so you can build a business that actually aligns with the life you want.

2008

Launched Max Workouts

Together, Shin and I built Max Workouts—a fitness program that became our crash course in real, effective online marketing. I dove headfirst into marketing and discovered the truth: it’s not the best product that wins—it’s the clearest message. Once we got our marketing dialed in, the business exploded, allowing both of us to quit our jobs in just nine months and eventually serve 500,000+ customers. Today, I teach those same messaging and marketing strategies to you so you can attract the right audience and actually make sales.

2014

Invited to Google

My marketing and sales deep-dive led to something wild: Google invited me to their HQ. Twice. I had scaled our ad spend from $0 to over $300,000 a month—a level unusual for a business run by just two people—and they wanted to learn how I did it. Those years of testing, optimizing, and understanding what actually makes people buy are exactly why I can now teach you how to market smarter, attract the right customers, and scale with confidence.

2017

Had our son, Koji

During my pregnancy with Koji, I constantly felt nauseas and worked just five hours a week. After he was born, I wasn’t sick anymore, but I was exhausted—so Shin and I both worked very little while navigating new parent life. The only reason we could do this without everything falling apart was because of the systems and automation we’d built into our business. People thought we must be “trust fund kids,” but the truth is we created a business that didn’t rely on us grinding 24/7.

2019

Launched Burn360

Between new mom life and turning 40, I felt called to create a fitness program and membership built for women, by someone who understood their stage of life. That’s how Burn360 came to life—and because I leaned on years of product creation, marketing, and business experience, it launched successfully. With over 100,000 customers around the world, Burn360 became another proof point that the right offer, to the right audience, with the right strategy works.

2020

Moved to Vancouver, BC

During Covid, we packed up our life in the Bay Area and moved to Vancouver, BC—and our online business made it possible. It was our fifth city since becoming entrepreneurs, and each time we moved we were reminded how freeing it is to run a business that travels with you.
